international undergraduate cardiovascular conference typically held in november each year across medical schools in the uk. education learn from the experts in the fields of cardiovascular medicine and surgery. in past conferences, we organized masterclasses in interventional cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, as well as hands-on sessions on coronary artery bypass grafting, vascular surgery, and cardiac imaging. we also regularly hold revision sessions for medical students such as our well-received ecg workshops. research we promote early exposure and contribution to academia. every year, many students participate in our annual conference to showcase their cardiovascular research and to compete for a national research prize. studies presented at our conferences have been published in renowned medical journals. not only that, we aim to form a research collaborative, organize research hack-a-thons, and bring our journal – bucj online in the near future! collaborative we are an incoming junior doctor at the addenbrooke’s hospital in cambridge, and a msc candidate and clarendon scholar at oxford. his research interests include cardiovascular surgery and cardiovascular stem cells. he has a number of publications in high impact journals such as the ejcts and cardiovascular research, and presents regularly at various international and national meetings. he is a reviewer for the journal of cardiothoracic surgery. prizes and awards include the likes of the scts ionescu travelling fellowship and royal society medicine sidney linton prize for cardiovascular teaching innovation. jimmy has been instrumental in the creation of bucj – buca’s online peer-reviewed journal, and continues to work in this area and hope to work with students to contribute towards bringing buca to greater heights. nick gollop medical adviser uk & ireland | physician | honorary research fellow | phd & mba candidate medical doctor with full gmc license, mrcp(uk), 6.5 years nhs experience, 4 years clinical research experience (phd) and 35 publications since 2012. current mba candidate from warwick business school. presently providing medical and scientific expertise across uk & ireland within cardiometabolism and diabetes to boehringer ingelheim. appointed as an honorary fellow at the uea medical school consulting on medical research strategy and contributing to professional external advisory boards. training as abpi final signatory. studying for diploma in pharmaceutical medicine (dpm). scheduled to enrol on pharmaceutical medicine specialty training (pmst). shruti jayakumar junior doctor shruti is a recent graduate from the gkt london medical school where she intercalated in physiology. a former president of buca with several leading roles in the country, she was the lead organizer of the 3rd international undergraduate cardiovascular conference. she was also president of king’s college’s cardiovascular society. her career aspiration is to be a cardio-thoracic surgeon. she has published extensively, and set-up the uk undergraduate cardiovascular research network. she also has a particular interest in global health and is working on an economic model to bring comprehensive medical care to rural areas. rafail kotronias academic clinical fellow, oxford university dr. kotronias is an academic foundation trainee in the oxford university clinical academic graduate school. his publication record includes 6 published papers in pubmed indexed journals, 3 currently under submission and 19 international/national presentations. he currently works on clinical projects investigating coronary artery disease and structural heart disease, and is heavily involved in leadership and management projects including the organisation and steering of the british undergraduate cardiovascular association (buca) and the evaluation of uk medical school curricula by the faculty of medical leadership and management (fmlm). he also spearheaded the shaping of the educational portfolio of buca as well as organizing and facilitating regional and national medical student teaching. meet our team cheng chan treasurer cheng is a third-year medical student. he has a strong interest in cardiology and gastroenterology, and would be commencing on an intercalated degree in cardiovascular science in 2019. view details skanda rajasundaram societies officer skanda is a 5th year medical student at oxford. in pre-clinical school, he developed an interest in physiology and elected to undertake a ba in cardiac, respiratory and renal biology. the university awarded him an association of physicians prize for his research into calcium signalling within the sinoatrial node and its implications for cardiac peacemaking. this research was later recognised at a national level upon winning a physiological society rob clarke award. skanda has since published research articles in frontiers immunology and the american journal of cardiology and has presented at both national and international conferences. in his role as events, reps & societies officer, he hopes to encourage collaboration between cardiovascular societies across the uk in
